CILICIA. Tarsos. Tarkumuwa (Datames), satrap of Cilicia and Cappadocia, 384-361/0 BC. Stater (Silver, 24 mm, 10.49 g, 7 h). 𐑁𐑏𐑋𐑕𐑓𐑆 ('b'ltrs' in Aramaic) Baaltars seated right on backless throne, holding eagle-tipped scepter in his right hand and grape bunch and grain ear in his left; below throne, facing boukranion; in background, thymiaterion; all within crenellated border. Rev. π‘•π‘Šπ‘“π‘Œπ‘… ('trdmw' in Aramaic) Datames seated right, wearing Persian dress and testing arrow; to upper right, winged solar disk; to right, bow. Casabonne series 2. SNG Levante 88. SNG Paris 284-288. Beautifully toned and without the porosity that usually plagues this series. Nearly extremely fine.
